Registration 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM
Designing Inclusive Art & Music Systems for Young Children (Birth–5) This hands-on implementation lab equips early childhood educators, early intervention professionals, and preschool staff with practical, standards-aligned strategies to integrate art and music into learning environments serving children from birth through age five, including those with IEPs, developmental delays, and diverse learning needs. Participants will actively engage in music- and art-based learning experiences that support expressive and receptive language development, fine motor growth, sensory regulation, early literacy foundations, and social-emotional competence. Through modeling, guided practice, and collaborative design work, educators will examine how process-based art and structured music routines can strengthen classroom routines, increase participation, and promote inclusive access for all learners.
The session explicitly addresses adaptations and accommodations for children with varying developmental profiles across inclusive, blended, and self-contained environments. Participants will design ready-to-implement art and music integrations aligned with Illinois Early Learning Standards and applicable curriculum frameworks, ensuring that instructional practices are purposeful, developmentally appropriate, and accessible for young children from birth through preschool.
Educators will leave with completed implementation plans, differentiated participation strategies, and resource tools that can be immediately applied in early intervention, preschool, and early childhood special education settings.
Presenters Hamlet Meneses and Alina Celeste
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Design developmentally appropriate art and music experiences for children birth through age five that align with Illinois Early Learning Standards and support inclusive classroom practices.
2. Identify and apply specific adaptations and accommodations within art and music activities to increase access and participation for children with IEPs, developmental delays, sensory needs, and communication differences.
3. Integrate music-based language strategies and process-based art experiences into daily routines to support early literacy, fine motor development, and social-emotional growth across inclusive and self-contained settings.
4. Develop an implementation blueprint that maps art and music activities to curriculum themes, instructional objectives, and individualized developmental goals for young children ages 0–5.
